Gong Baths
What is a gong bath and how does it work?
Gong sound is as ancient as the discovery of smelting, and has been used by indigenous tribes for millennia as a means of communication, celebration and communion with What Is.
A gong bath is a deep immersion in sound. The vibration of the gong resonates through the layers of the body/mind - purifying, clarifying, illuminating, elevating.
During the gong bath the gong is blended with other instruments to create a soundscape as pitches, textures and resonances interweave to lead the listener through different layers of the psyche. Each time is completely unique - a combination of everyone's state of being, the energy of the venue and that specific moment in time which weaves a powerful magic.
The unpredictability of the resonances coming from the gong encourages the mind to switch off so that the bather can let go into the sea of sound and be transported in whatever way feels right, enabling us to access different states of consciousness - deeply restorative delta sleep, alpha REM-style creative dreaming or theta superconsciousness. The delta state is where deep healing, regeneration and physical reorganisation occur. The alpha state is where we find the perfect poise between executive function, creativity and zen-like focus - a state of flow and harmony, where we can access our deepest knowing. The theta state is where we merge into divinity, becoming both nothing and everything at once.
